The beauty of the Indian handicraft is that there are unique products and artisans in every district and remote corner of the country. To bring these artisans to the mainstream, we will need to go to their villages. Understand the harmony between the artisans, their produce, their environment and then bring them to the rest of the world!
To address this opportunity, we must deploy technology to mobilize, authenticate, train and then link the artisans to the markets. Today, edge computing solutions are available to support the initiative.
Mon Ami Foundation has been piloting some projects in the remote parts of Uttarakhand and West Bengal using these solutions.
We have used GPS enabled solutions to ensure that the mobilizers are reaching the actual villages to meet with the artisans. Accurate information is given to the artisans, and they are encouraged to work from the safety and security of their homes.
The training modules are delivered at the remote sites with authentication done and data captured at site. Real time. The modules are digitally documented for future reference.
One of the missing links to artisanal products has been the market linkages. We have focused extensively to use edge tools to provide direct market access to the artisans. These tools are efficient, low cost and eliminate all intermediatory layers and gives them higher value for their produce.
We have a real opportunity to become a larger player in the global handcrafted market. Lets use our strength on technology deployment
